With the utmost concern for the health and safety of our volunteers and clients, AARP Tax-Aide is sad to announce that we have made the difficult decision to not open any of our AARP Tax-Aide sites in Delaware County for the normal February through April 2021 tax filing season.
AARP National HQ is hoping and planning to offer some virtual tax preparation services across the country, but the operational details have not yet been released. From what we know at this point, our local leaders believe that these virtual services are not a good fit to meet the needs of our targeted taxpayers.
We know that many people rely on our services. We are sorry to disappoint them. So we will pass along to you any information that we gather about alternative options for taxpayers to receive assistance with tax preparation.
If the COVID vaccine is rapidly distributed and received this coming spring, and AARP and the IRS decide to extend the tax filing season as they did in 2020, we may revisit our decision about opening our local Tax-Aide sites for any “extended” season in 2021.
We will keep you posted if we start exploring that possibility in the spring of 2021. Thank you for your understanding and support.
