SourcePoint’s Medical Response Team

MRT
Your Safety Matters at SourcePoint

Did you know SourcePoint has a dedicated Medical Response Team (MRT) on-site to help support the health and well-being of everyone who visits or works at SourcePoint?

The MRT is a group of 15-20 trained staff members who volunteer to help keep our community safe. Team members are trained in basic first aid, CPR, and use of SourcePoint’s five AEDs (automated external defibrillators). In the event of a medical emergency, they are ready to respond quickly and calmly.

What Happens When the MRT is called?

When the MRT is activated, members respond immediately to the location announced over the paging system.

  • The first team member to arrive checks in with the individual experiencing an emergency and gathers basic information about what is happening.
  • As other MRT members arrive, they help create space, ensure privacy, and collect helpful details from witnesses.
  • If needed, the team will call 911 for additional medical support.

Events requiring emergency services be contacted include:

  • Chest pain
  • Head injuries
  • Unconsciousness or unresponsiveness
  • Extreme confusion
  • Falls when the person cannot get up on their own as they normally would

These steps are taken to ensure the individual receives appropriate care and to rule out injuries that may not be immediately visible. In Delaware County, there is no cost for emergency medical services, and first responders cannot require someone to be transported to a hospital against their will.

What the MRT Can—and Can’t—Do

The MRT is trained to provide basic first aid and emergency support, but there are important limits to their role.

The team cannot:

  • Provide medical treatment beyond first aid or diagnose conditions
  • Administer medications
  • Lift someone who has fallen

These limits are in place to protect individuals from potential complications, such as fractures, dislocations, or head injuries. When a higher level of medical care is needed, emergency professionals are contacted to provide appropriate assessment and support.

How to Get Help at SourcePoint

If you or someone near you needs medical assistance:

  1. Alert a SourcePoint staff member or volunteer right away.
  2. Staff or volunteers will page the MRT using the overhead system and internal phones.
  3. Calling 911 from any SourcePoint phone will also alert the MRT and provide your location. SourcePoint has phones throughout the building with signs by each location.
  4. If you are unable to do any of the above, call 911 from your own cell phone while continuing to try to get someone’s attention nearby for additional support.

The most important step is making sure someone knows help is needed.

How You Can Help During a Medical Emergency

Everyone plays a role in keeping SourcePoint a safe and supportive place to visit.

  • If you notice someone who may be in distress, check in and/or notify staff.
  • If the MRT is responding, please clear the area and allow the team to work.
  • Help provide space, privacy, and dignity for the individual experiencing the emergency medical event.
  • If you have information that could be helpful, such as what happened, medical history, or other observations, share it with an MRT member.

We can all work together to support the Medical Response Team’s goal of creating a safe, respectful, and caring environment for all who visit SourcePoint.
