Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Facility Maintenance Manager, the Custodian is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the building.

  • Reports to: Facility Maintenance Manager
  • FLSA: Part-time, hourly (non-exempt)
  • Pay Range: $15.69-$20.95/hr
Essential Job Functions & Expectations
  • Performs major cleaning duties daily on all areas and fixtures of the facility, including, but not limited to, office areas, aquatic area, fitness locker rooms, staff lounge, facility restrooms, and other common spaces 
  • Sweeps, cleans, disinfects, sanitizes, mops, dusts, scrubs, or vacuums floors, fixtures, counters, sinks, handrails, door openers, elevators, drinking fountains, equipment, walls, windows, doors, mirrors, tables, furniture, and other common items. Gathers and empties trash and recyclables
  • Performs VCT and ceramic tile floor care
  • Mixes and follows the proper OSHA safety procedures for the use of cleaning solutions and the operation of associated cleaning equipment
  • Sets up rooms for classes or events, requires the moving and setting up of tables and chairs, fixtures, and equipment  
  • Performs minor maintenance duties, including but not limited to snow removal, shoveling, spreading sidewalk salt, weeding, replacing light bulbs, adjusting furniture, securing the building, minor wall and painting, pool water chemistry testing and treatment, turning off lighting, litter control, restocking supplies, and runs errands
  • Responds to facility emergencies or urgent issues as they arise, serves as a member of the “emergency response” team. 
  • Reports all equipment malfunctions and damage to the facility or fixtures to the Facility Maintenance Manager. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a custodian, janitor, or in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of standard and pandemic environment cleaning / disinfecting methods and procedures
  • Knowledge and experience in the operation of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances such as vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers and buffers, carpet shampooers, and Kaivac cleaning equipment. 
  • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies, experience with handling, mixing, and using cleaning chemicals, and knowledge of OSHA occupational hazards safety rules
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly, follow instructions, be respectful and professional, work independently, and collaborate with others 
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Willingness to promote a positive work culture both within the organization and in the community.
  • Must be creative and can deal with ambiguity and change on a routine basis.
  • Must be willing to submit to and pass criminal background checks per agency policy.
Essential Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects (50 lbs.) and the ability to perform repetitive motion, manual labor, cleaning, sweeping for extended periods. 
  • Set up, move, and tear down, chairs, tables, stage, equipment, displays and furniture as needed for various programs, meetings and events as required and other physically demanding duties as required.  
  • The ability to meet deadlines and to handle multiple tasks 
  • Work a diverse schedule that may include evening and weekend hours
  • Ability to withstand extreme hot and cold temperatures regularly.
  • Ability to navigate safely in uneven terrain and stairs.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods.

It is recognized that in any organization, particularly a small organization, it is necessary to assume new responsibilities to ensure a smooth continuity of operations within the organization.  It is also anticipated that other organizational needs will emerge from time to time, which will be assigned to the Custodian.
