National Older Driver Safety Week: December 1-5

It’s normal for driving abilities to change as we get older. As we age, we must self-assess our abilities, reduce risk factors, and incorporate safe driving practices to maintain driving independence. During National Older Driver Safety Week, SourcePoint, The SAFE Delaware County Coalition, and Age-Friendly Delaware Coalition will host 4 informational safety awareness talks with driving safety experts. Visit our table each day from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the opportunity to win a prize, test your brake-reaction time, and learn about strategies on how to drive longer safely.

Monday 12/1: Alternatives to Driving with Delaware County Transit Mobility Manager Kathy Laughlin and SourcePoint Mobility Manager Jill Smith

Tuesday 12/2: Traffic Talk with Ohio Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Engineer Katie Wright featuring the “Stay Fit to Drive” program

Wednesday 12/3: Trooper Talk with Ohio State Highway Patrol Post Commander Lt. Curry on Winter Driving

Thursday 12/4: Tune Up Your Driving Skills and test your brake reaction time with an OhioHealth Occupational Therapist, OhioHealth Neurological Rehabilitation, D.R.I.V.E. Rehabilitation/Licensed Driving Instructor/Certified Dementia Practitioner, Brandy Heistand MS, OTR/L, LDI, CDP

CarFit Event: Thursday, Dec. 4

CarFit offers area senior drivers a free opportunity to check how their cars “fit” them. CarFit’s trained professionals take older drivers through a 12-point checklist with their vehicle, recommending minor adjustments that help make their cars “fit” better for comfort and safety. Thursday’s CarFit event will take place at the Delaware Fire Station 304, 821 Cheshire Road, SOURCEPOINT EAST PARKING LOT. Visit car-fit.org to learn more about the CarFit program.

A Delaware Public Health District CarFit technician will phone you to schedule your 30-minute appointment time.
