Create and promote welcoming spaces—from parks to community centers—so older adults know where they are, how to get there, and can enjoy them safely and comfortably.
94% consider their community to be somewhat or very safe. But access to public spaces is diminished when ¼ to almost 1/3 report no where to rest and no restrooms, sidewalks, or water.
Strategic Priorities
Outdoor Spaces & Buildings-Focused Programs
Park Benches
⫸ Preservation Parks Delaware County replaced and modified 25 benches with age-friendly modifications throughout the county. Benches that are fitted with handrails are a simple way to provide support and stability to those that require a little extra help with getting up and down on a bench.

Collaboration
The Outdoor Spaces and Buildings domain works in partnership with the Delaware Public Health District’s Partnership for a Healthy Delaware County and is proud to be an active member of the Community Health Improvement Plan’s Community Healthy Behaviors and Practices team. Recognizing the value of inviting outdoor spaces as a social determent of health, we also work closely with Delaware County Preservation Parks, Ohio Wesleyan University, the Central Ohio Symphony* and others.
