POSITION DESCRIPTION
Volunteers with a knack for public speaking become OSHIIP certified to lead SourcePoint’s “New to Medicare” classes. These informative sessions give new or prospective enrollees basic knowledge to start their Medicare journey. Some class leaders also provide one-on-one insurance counseling. Volunteers cannot possess a current insurance license or work in a field with a conflict of interest.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Volunteers must be able to stand for much of their two-hour presentations and be able to complete a 20-hour online class.
TRAINING
SourcePoint Volunteer Orientation, attend a “New to Medicare” class, completion of a 20-hour, self-paced, online OSHIIP certification class, and shadowing of an Insurance Specialist.
TIME COMMITMENT
“New to Medicare” classes typically last two hours with approximately twenty attendees. A minimum commitment of once a month is expected. Class times and locations vary and are preset. A sample of the current schedule is here. Insurance counseling sessions typically last two hours.
LOCATION
Classes take place at various locations including SourcePoint’s Cheshire Road and Polaris Parkway locations, along with other venues through the county.
