🗣 Age-Friendly Communication & Information

We recognize older adults communicate in various ways and will ensure they are connected within the community.

AGE-FRIENDLY AWARENESS

With Delaware County being the fastest-growing county in the state, it is especially important for our community members to understand this age-friendly preparation.

With support from Greif, Inc., we created an introductory video to Age-Friendly Delaware County. Social media platforms keep the community engaged and informed of Age-Friendly initiatives. These channels include a dedicated FaceBook page and an Instagram account.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

In a digital age, many older adults struggle to access the information they need to thrive. Additionally, the prevalence of blindness and vision impairment increases rapidly with age, particularly after 75.

Website Accessibility – The UserWay accessibility plugin helps individuals who have varying degrees of visual impairment by enhancing their browsing experience to best meet their needs. Web users overcome any senses that may have softened or deteriorated over time by allowing them to adjust the text size, highlighting clickable areas so they don’t get lost among the other content, increasing the size of the mouse pointer, and using higher contrast colors. SourcePoint is one organization in Delaware County that has employed the UserWay plugin. Visit MySourcePoint.org and look for the round blue icon peeking out from the center-right of your screen. Click it to unhide the accessibility features and explore! LEARN MORE

VOICEcorps Reading Service volunteers read aloud newspapers, print publications, and shopping flyers. Individuals who cannot read print because of a disability, including those who are blind or have low vision, are eligible for Voicecorps’ service. In addition to reading print materials, the program schedule features service organization highlights, including Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) Bureau of Services for the Visually Impaired (BSVI), consumer advocacy meetings, special events, and more.
