We envision a community where older adults can continue to work, volunteer, and be actively engaged in community life.
POSITIVE AGING CAMPAIGN
Ageism is harmful to all people. We strive to create a community in which all members, regardless of age or ability, are honored
for their contribution.
With support from Grief, Inc., Age-Friendly Delaware County created a video challenging perceptions of aging. This video was shared with the community through various social media platforms including Facebook.
INTERGENERATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Of the Delaware County older adults surveyed, 47% said that intergenerational activities do not apply to them. We want to work to introduce more opportunities for intergenerational interaction and engagement to reduce ageism and improve lives in our community.
โซธ Sages & Seekers is a free 8-week intergenerational program designed to bring together teens (Seekers) and adults aged 55 or older (Sages) to share their unique gifts and life experiences. Each week, the pairs are guided through a conversational journey that is designed to foster empathy, breakthrough generational barriers to diminish ageism, and cultivate listening, interviewing, and communication skills. In 2019, Connections Volunteer Center/HelpLine expanded this program to two local schools.
โซธ SourcePoint provides several intergenerational opportunities throughout the year including art programs, nature exploration, events, and more.
โซธ The Lifelong Learning Institute at Ohio Wesleyan offers a variety of educational programs using peer learning concepts in a relaxed environment to benefit intellectually curious older adults.
